[VIDEO] I’M BLACK AND I DON’T CARE ABOUT HARRIET TUBMAN REPLACING ANDREW JACKSON ON THE 20 DOLLAR BILL

On April 20, 2016, United States Treasury Secretary Jacob “Jack” Lew has announced plans to redesign US currency – the $5 dollar bill, the $10 dollar bill, and the $20 dollar bill, which will feature prominent abolitionist and pro-gun conservative woman Harriet Tubman on the front, removing the picture of former United States President Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson will still be featured on the currency, just on the back rather than the front. Instead of his face being shown large like it currently exists, the new $20 dollar bill design feature a photo of a statue of Jackson on the grounds in front of the White House.

The other currency denominations to be redesigned, the $5 and $10 dollar bills respectively, will feature redesigns to the back. The $5 dollar bill will feature singer Marian Anderson, former first lady Elanor Roosevelt, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, all of whom were featured at events at the Lincoln Memorial. The $10 dollar bill denomination will feature prominent figures to the Women’s Suffrage movement on the back of the bill, including Sojourner Truth and Susan B. Anthony.

Currency redesign is a power that Obama has under his administration; Obama appointee Jack Lew as Treasury Secretary has those aforementioned powers as part of his administrative duties. Many reasons have been speculated as to why the currency was changed. Some people think that this signals an end to paper money, some people think that this is a sign of aggression from the United States government, to cover up history and erase certain undesirable people. Of course, there are plenty race-related theories. Some hate the move and they think it uplifts blacks, some think it downplays blacks and hate it. Some have the same view as it relates to whites. An overall strange move, but not a sudden one as Obama brought up the idea as early as 2014 at a speech.
